Autumn is coming! And that means the start of another Asian Art auction season! I will be in New York for the Asia Week auction previews from September 7th to the 11th. Please say hi if you see me at one of the various exhibitions throughout the city.
In the meantime my next Orientations Magazine market trends report will be featured in their September/October issue (which should be available through museum bookstores next week). This report covers Chinese Art highlights from the Spring 2017 international auction season at Bonhams, Christie's and Sotheby's.
Highly anticipated sales of ancient bronzes, Buddhist art, mark and period porcelain, and classical furniture made this one of the most successful series of auctions in the Chinese Art world.
If you haven't done so, you can also read my past blogs about my trips to some of these events including New York Asia Week in March, and the late Spring auctions in Hong Kong.
The September/October issue of Orientations itself focuses on the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Galleries of Buddhist Art at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the cover has a detailed image of Ruan Xiu in Landscape by the Ming Dynasty artist Chen Hongshou 陳洪綬 (1599–1652). This hanging scroll was painted circa 1639 and can be found at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
