Published! My Latest 'Chinese Works of Art and Paintings Auction Highlights' in Orientations
Updated: Apr 13
If you haven't checked it out yet, my latest report on the Chinese Art and Paintings auction market just got published! You can find it in the March/April 2019 issue of Orientations Magazine. The magazine should be available for purchase at most museum bookstores. You can also order individual copies and subscribe through the Orientation's website.
In my article, I go through the exciting highlights from the Fall 2018 auction season at Bonhams, Christie’s and Sotheby’s. This includes record-breaking prices for classical and modern Chinese paintings, a high demand for top imperial porcelains, and a continuing fascination with Buddhist sculptures.
Amongst other things, this issue of Orientations focuses on East Asian Art at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh and goes through the Rubin Museum’s newest exhibition ‘Faith and Empire’. On the cover is a detail of a phoenix crown made from kingfisher feathers, part of the National Museum of Scotland’s permanent collection.
If you haven't done so, you can also read my past blogs about my trips to some of these auction events including Three Months of Travel! Chinese Art Highlights from New York, Hong Kong and London! Founded in 1970 and published six times a year, Orientations is a Hong Kong based international magazine for those with a deep interest in Asian Art. This year marks their 50th Anniversary!
In other news, it's April now, and I just survived a crazy six weeks where I traveled to Montreal, Boston, New York, Chicago, Hong Kong and Taipei. I'll eventually post some of my highlights in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned.
In the meantime, I will be prepping for my Vancouver trip from April 23 to April 26. If you know anyone in the Canadian West Coast who need their Asian Art valued or appraised, please let direct them my way.
That's it for now. You can always follow my Asian Art adventures through my Instagram account @anthonywuart, and I will be frequently publishing highlights from the North American regional auction houses through my Bidsquare.com blogs. If you have any questions or comments, please send me an email.
